  • Airport or Resort? The Next, Next Generation of Airport Environments

  •
  • Wednesday, January 17th, 2018
  • 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM
  • Millennium Biltmore Hotel
    506 S. Grand Ave
    Los Angeles, CA 90071

  • The tragedies of 9/11, which brought about cumbersome, stressful and time-consuming travel, led to a renaissance in airport design. As a result, we’ve seen amazing projects and spaces unfold at airports including San Francisco International, Seattle Tacoma International, Los Angeles International, Denver International, and San Diego International—to name just a few in the Western United States. These owners planned and implemented multi-billion-dollar programs aimed at improving the passenger experience. Placing amenities beyond security checkpoints now allows passengers to enjoy dining, shopping, or lingering in comfort close to their gates. These airports are branded and alive with hints of the flavors local to their respective regions. Who knew it could get even better?

In the next, next generation of airports taking flight, we weary travelers can look forward to even greater amenities within environments that feel more like resorts than ever. A sharper focus on incorporating small, local retailers and restaurateurs hint at what we will experience during our visit when we land, and gives us the opportunity to soak it all in—and purchase last-minute souvenirs and gifts—before leaving town. Ample outlets and charging stations will allow us to manage all of our digital devices. Self-service kiosks at restaurants and shops will provide greater convenience.

What else will we have to look forward to in our next travel adventure? And how can the A/E/C community in the Los Angeles region become part of these important endeavors? Join this lively SMPS/LA panel to find out!
